Ohio Burn Laws
Every year fire destroys thousands of homes, buildings, property and natural resources. It costs lives and inflicts injuries to those in it's path, including the firefighters who are called to control it. One way you can prevent this is to use good judgment and obey the laws that are in place for your safety.
The links below contain the information you need BEFORE you start a fire. Contact your area fire department to insure there are no unauthorized materials being burned. Such materials include old tires, shingles, asbestos, etc. Also notify the Sheriff's office of the time and place for the controlled burn. This insures that that passerby's who see the fire and call 911 to report the fire can be told that it is a controlled burn and tax dollars are not wasted by sending the fire dept. to put out your fire because you forgot to call. Fines can be imposed if you fail to notify the right agencies.
Also, remember, a little common sense goes a long way. Don't start fires in proximity of other structures or flammable materials. Make sure you tend to the fire until it has been extinguished or has burned down to a safe level.
Remember, a CONTROLLED burn means that you are going to be there with the fire to monitor it in case something happens. If your fire is reported and it's found to be unattended, it will likely be extinguished and you could be fined.
